TOMEC HEINRICH

Prag 1863 - 1928 Wien

Heinrich Tomec was born on the 13th of September 1863 in Prague. He learned from 1879 to 1884 at the painting workshop of the Prague National Theater. From 1887 on he studied at the Viennese Academy, where he attended a special school for painting with Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels until 1892. From 1896 on he was a member of the Viennese Künstlerhaus. He was a friend of Johann Nepomuk Geller and married his sister. Tomec often stayed in the Wachau, where many of his works were created, including village views of Dürnstein and Weißenkirchen. He created other landscapes in the southern part of Lower Austria, the Waldviertel and the Salzkammergut. His works are based on the 19th century landscape painting as well as on mood imprinting. Heinrich Tomec died in Vienna on July 12, 1928.
