LUTZ ANTON

Prambachkirchen 1894 - 1992 Linz

Lutz was born on the 18th of February 1894 in Prambachkirchen. Until 1908Anton Lutz went to elementary school in Urfahr, which is where he attended his first drawing lessons. From 1909 to 1913 he attended the Imperial Royal Lehrerbildungsanstalt in Linz. In the same year he exhibited his works for the first time. Together with Franz and Klemens Brosch, and Franz Sedlacek he participated in the founding of the Linzer artist MAERZ.

Lutz began an artistic education in Munich, which gave him a lot of freedom and introduced him to many painting techniques. Secessionstil and Impressionism characterized his early works. Later, his works in the area of Realism and New Objectivity became more popular. Anton Lutz is seen as major figure of moderate modernism. Anton Lutz died on May 2, 1992 in his home on the Pöstlingberg in Linz.
