Vilma Eckl was born on 26 June 1892 in Lorch near Enns . She was educated at Berta from Tarnoczy, Rosa Scherer, and Tina Koffler in Linz . They went on study trips to Italy, Yugoslavia, Germany, and Switzerland. Besides the influence of the German Expressionism - especially the Munich group The Blue Rider – which she had applied to, but particularly the Linzer painting school of Matthias May was crucial to her artistic development.
